About Us

Our “official” name is the Stone County Historical/Genealogical Society. We also go by SCHGS-Museum and the Stone County Museum. Since 1976 we have been the repository for history, artifacts, stories and educational programming related to Stone County Missouri. The White and James Rivers are both in Stone County as are many smaller creeks running through our county in the Southwest corner of the Ozark Plateau.

Our Executive Board members serve for a one year term. Elected by the Society Membership in December, they are appointed in January of the following year. These volunteers have a wide range of skills, life experience, and are passionate about Stone County History. The Executive Board usually meets on the second Saturday of each month.
